Block Reward
The block reward is the newly created coins plus transaction fees paid to whoever produces a valid block.
In depth
It is the incentive that makes securing the network worthwhile. In Bitcoin the new-coin portion started at 50 BTC and halves roughly every four years; eventually only fees will remain. The reward is created in a special first transaction of each block called the coinbase.
Why it matters
Block rewards are how supply enters the market β they directly shape a coinβs inflation.
